Botanical Beach – by CW

Hi, I’m Caroline and I haven’t posted anything in a while. Today we went to Botanical Beach.

While we were at the beach, we looked at the tide pools. In the tide pools we saw some neon coloured anemone and also some purple sea urchins.

Looking into the tide pools was a fun and interesting experience. There were thousands of mussels too…

Marcus said, “Can you squish that sea onion?” In case you are wondering what a sea onion is, it is a long strip of seaweed with a bulb at the end (aka: bull kelp). I dared Marcus to squish it instead. He squished the sea onion and some sea water came out and a little bit of air. I thought something else will come out – maybe slime or some other gross substance. After exploring the tide pools, we took a little break at Botany Bay before heading back. I had a lot of fun today and enjoyed myself.

Sounds like a really fun day, Caroline!! When my brother, sister, and I were younger, we used to put shells into the anemones to watch them close. We also used to pinch the little buds on the sea kelp and squirt each other with the sea water inside them. And, when the jellyfish were in, we used to pick them up and throw them at each other. All sorts of fun to be had at the beach, isn’t there? I’m glad you guys are enjoying your trip! 🙂
